Services

Acupuncture

Acupuncture 针灸 is an ancient Chinese Medicine therapeutic method that utilizes fine needles to regulate the body and reduce pain by accessing the jingluo 经络 "channels and collaterals" of the body.

Needle insertions should not hurt, but individuals may experience sensations that may feel odd at first, especially for newcomers, such as distension, heaviness, soreness, and/or tingling, which are usually followed by a deep sense of relaxation.

Cupping

Cupping 拔罐 is an ancient Chinese Medicine therapeutic method that uses glass or plastic cups to create a local suction to promote the flow of Qi and blood, encourage detoxification, and facilitate recovery.

For these reasons it's favored both by past martial artists, modern athletes, as well as by those seeking to reduce tension and achieve rest and relaxation.

Guasha

Guasha 刮痧 is an ancient Chinese Medicine therapeutic method that uses a smooth scraping tool (traditionally made from animal horns or jade) to stimulate the flow of Qi and blood in order to facilitate detoxification, regeneration, repair, and healing.

For these reason it's favored both by those experiencing chronic tension & pain, as well as by those utilizing cosmetic acupuncture to keep the skin supple and healthy.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion 艾灸, aka moxa, is an ancient Chinese Medicine therapeutic method that uses the heat from burning dried mugwort plant to strengthen immunity, dispel cold, warm the body, and promote circulation.

There are many ways to administer this heat, from indirect moxa stick (popular in China) to direct moxa on the skin (commonly used in Japan). In recent times it has been increasingly valued in the West for gynecological disorders and chronic fatigue.

Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbal medicine 中药 is an ancient herbal practice that has been in use for thousands of years, and has been fine-tuned through successive generations for its therapeutic effects upon a wide range of ailments.

Some of the herbs used are familiar to Western consumers such as cinnamon, ginger, and star anise, while other herbs may be in the process of becoming more familiar in the West, such as ginseng, goji berries, and astragalus root. One of the defining characteristic of Chinese herbal medicine is that it's rarely administered as a single-herb, but as a time-tested and sophisticatedly constructed herbal formula.

About Me

My name is Xiang Ji (pronounced "shawn g"), 姬祥 in Chinese. I'm a licensed acupuncturist in the state of Oregon. I was born and raised in Zhengzhou 郑州, Henan, in China, an area situated on the bank of the Yellow River, often referred to as the “cradle of Chinese civilization.”

Though my love of Chinese Medicine started from a young age, when I was brought to herbalists and acupuncturists that helped me to heal many of my childhood ailments, I did not at first consider it as a profession.

Fast forward many years later, through a circuitous journey of self-discovery, I answered my calling and returned to my roots and completed both my master's degree and doctoral degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, where I am also a part-time faculty and herbal medicinary supervisor.

I reside in beautiful Milwaukie with my wife and two kids. During our spare time we like to explore the breathtakingly picturesque northwest and to visit our family and friends across the majestic continental US, and overseas in China and in Japan.

There is one consolation in being sick;

and that is the possibility that you may recover to a better state than you were ever in before.

~ Henry David Thoreau

It is my wish that you be filled with abundant health and abiding peace;
